Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose phthalate (HPMCP)

Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose acetate succinate (HPMCAS)

HPMCP or Hydroxy Propyl Methylcellulose Phthalate is also known as Hypromellose Phthalate or Cellulose, 2-Hydroxypropyl methylether, phthalic acid ester. (Chemical CAS 9050-31-1). HPMCP was developed and used originally as an enteric coating agent. Favorable properties of HPMCP have led to extension of its range of applications into other fields, inlcuding sustained release preparations, binders and microcapsule bases. HPMCP  can be used in combination with other polymers, such as sustained release preparations.

HPMCAS or Hydroxy Propyl Methylcellulose Acetate Succinate is also known as Hypromellose Acetate Succinate. HPMCAS has wide ranging applications such as aqueous dispersion coating, solvent-based coating, ammonia neutralized and dry coating. It can also be used for pH-responsive drug release and in solid dispersions to enhance bio-availability of poorly soluble drugs.
